Short answer: for beginners and phone creators, the Digitek DTR 550 LW is a sensible low-cost start. For travel with a mirrorless or full-frame camera, the Manfrotto Befree Advanced is compact and stable. For desk videos, get a mini tripod like the Manfrotto PIXI.

Five things to check

  1. Load capacity: at least double your camera + lens weight, so it stays steady in wind.
  2. Height: the camera should reach your eye level without raising the centre column fully.
  3. Folded length and weight: you won’t carry a tripod that’s too heavy.
  4. Head type: ball head for photos, pan/fluid head for smooth video pans.
  5. Leg locks: flip locks are fast; twist locks are compact and clean.

Tripods by use

Use Pick Approx. price Why
Beginner / phone / online classes Digitek DTR 550 LW ₹1,500 Light, ball head, phone holder
Travel / landscapes Manfrotto Befree Advanced ₹18,000 Compact, 8 kg load
Desk / vlogging grip Manfrotto PIXI ₹2,300 Tabletop + handheld
Reels / selfie stick Ulanzi MT-44 ₹1,500 Extends to ~1 m
Weddings / wildlife SIRUI P-326 monopod ₹7,000 Supports heavy lenses, moves fast

Video creators

Pans and tilts need a head that moves smoothly. Budget tripods with ball heads are fine for locked-off talking-head shots; for panning shots, add a fluid video head later.

Studio users

You’ll need a camera tripod and separate light stands for each light, like the Godox 302. See home studio lighting on a budget.

Monopods for events

A monopod takes the weight of a 70-200mm through a long ceremony and lets you move between positions in seconds, which is helpful when guests crowd the stage.

Try the height in store

Extend it, put your camera on it, and check it at your eye level. We’ll mount your camera on a few tripods at our Paldi store so you can feel the difference.

Frequently asked questions

01Ball head or pan head?

A ball head is quicker for photography and fits travel tripods. A pan head (or fluid video head) gives smoother horizontal pans for video. Many creators start with a ball head and add a video head later.

02Is carbon fibre worth it?

If you carry the tripod a lot (treks, travel), yes: it's lighter and absorbs vibration. For home and studio use, aluminium is fine and cheaper.

03Can I use a light stand as a tripod?

Not for cameras: light stands aren't designed for camera loads or precise angles. They're for lights, softboxes and backgrounds.
