Short answer: for weddings and events, put a Li-ion speedlite like the Godox V860III on your camera. For outdoor portraits that need to beat the sun, add a pocket strobe like the Godox AD200Pro II. For video, or to learn lighting by seeing it, use LED lights.

Speedlites for weddings and events

Indoor halls, sangeets and receptions are dark and fast. A speedlite on the camera, bounced off a ceiling or wall, gives soft, natural light without harsh shadows. Choose TTL so exposure adapts as you move. The V860III’s Li-ion battery recycles quickly and lasts the night; the AA-powered TT685II is the budget alternative or backup.

Pocket strobes for outdoor portraits

Midday sun in Gujarat is harsh. To light a couple’s faces while keeping a blue sky, you need more power than a speedlite. The AD200Pro II (200Ws) does that while fitting in a camera bag, and with HSS you can still shoot at f/1.8.

Studio strobes

For catalogue, portrait and product studios, mains-powered strobes like the SK400II give consistent power all day, with modelling lamps to preview the light.

LED lights

LEDs are on all the time, so what you see is what you get, which makes them great for learning, for video and for products. They’re less powerful than flash, so keep them close and use softboxes. See our home studio lighting guide.

Mixing systems

Godox’s 2.4G X system lets speedlites, pocket strobes and studio lights all be triggered and controlled from one transmitter on your camera, so you can grow your kit over time without changing brands.

Frequently asked questions

01Should I buy a TTL or manual flash?

TTL for events, where distances change constantly. Manual (like the Godox TT600) is cheaper and perfect for studios and off-camera setups where the distance stays the same.

02Why do wedding photographers prefer Li-ion flashes?

A Li-ion battery like the V860III's gives around 480 full-power flashes and recycles in about 1.5 seconds, compared with slower recycling and frequent AA changes.

03Can LED lights replace flash for photography?

For portraits and products at home, yes, and they're easier to learn. For freezing motion or overpowering the sun outdoors, flash is far more powerful.
